Eyemouth High School has three Pastoral teachers. They have a general responsibility for supporting approximately one third of the students who enter our school each year. It is the school's aim that the same Pastoral teacher will remain responsible for a particular student during his/her school career.
The school's Personal and Social Education programme (eg Careers Education, Health Education etc) is taught by these Pastoral teachers. Pastoral teachers are responsible for monitoring each student's progress. There is a programme of individual interviews for each student in every year. Pastoral teachers help students with any problems, personal or educational, which are having an adverse effect on their schooling. They also compile references for prospective employers and institutions of Higher and Further Education.
General careers advice is provided to all students by the Careers Adviser through certain PSE lessons. Pastoral teachers can refer students to the Careers Adviser at appropriate times and students can self-refer too. Careers interviews for parents and students can also be arranged.
If a parent wishes to discuss any aspect of their son/daughter's schooling, then the Pastoral teacher will normally be the first person to contact.
