Higher Physics

Physics helps us to understand the world around us, from the tiniest particles to the largest galaxies and everything in between. Physics opens doors to a large range of careers from cancer treatment to tackling climate changegaming, robotics and artificial intelligence. Physics and physicists are helping to shape the future. More Physics careers here.

Physics offers a vast range of career paths and not only in science and technology. Their problem-solving skills make physicists versatile and adaptable, so they also work in interesting places from engineering to finance. Have a look at the Institute of Physics Careers webpage and Step into Physics to find out where Physics could take you.

Physics courses encourage resilience and give students opportunities to think creatively through analysing practical results and solving problems.

The Higher Physics course consists of 3 units and a practical assignment.

  • Our Dynamic Universe
  • Electricity
  • Particles and Waves

There is a combination of theory and practical work throughout the course. Most students will have gained National 5 Physics before progressing to the Higher.
