Homework

Homework plays a very important part of the learning process for all Senior Phase Courses.

For National 5 Courses, students should ensure that they are spending at least 75 minutes per week on homework and independent study.

For Higher and Advanced Higher Courses, students should ensure that they are spending at least 2 hours per week on homework and independent study.

Useful resources to support your learning at home include:

  • BBC Bitesize
  • Scholar
  • BrightRed
  • Knowledge Organisers

Useful study activities are those which are best at helping you commit knowledge to long-term memory and to recall it (some people call this 'retrieval practice). Useful activities include:

  • Self-quizzing
  • Practising questions
  • Making and using Flash Cards
  • Making mind-maps

Details of homework activities for each of the courses you are studying are included in our Homework Programmes (below).
