Why study National 5 Travel and Tourism?

Travel and tourism is an important part of the Scottish and UK economy,  Hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism accounts for over 209,000 jobs in Scotland, around 10% of the jobs in this sector in the UK and accounts for 5% of Scotland's GDP. It includes a wide range of jobs from tour guide and travel consultant to tourist information assistant, conference and hotel managers. 

This course is designed to give learners the skills needed for work. In this course there will be an emphasis on skills development and the application of these skills for example, ICT skills, team work and customer service skills. 

Course Content

The course has 4 units, which are: 

Employability - The aim of this unit is to enable learners to develop skills to become effective job seekers and and employees. Learners will be introduced to the different skills and qualities that employers look for in people that work in Travel and Tourism industry. Learners will investigate different careers and demonstrate employability skills to a particular travel and tourism job. 

Customer Service - The aim of this unit is for learners to develop skills and knowledge to enable them to meet the needs of customers.  Learners will develop effective communication skills and learn about promoting products and services and how to deal with customer issues. 

Scotland - The aim of this unit is to enable learners to develop knowledge of travel and tourism in Scotland. Learners will carry out an investigation of meeting a customers needs for a holiday in Scotland. 

UK and Worldwide - The aim of this unit is to enable learners to develop their knowledge of travel and tourism in the UK and worldwide. Learners will carry out an investigation of travel and tourism in the UK and the rest of the world to meet the customers holiday needs. 

Assessment 

This is a 100% coursework subject which will be internally assessed by the teacher through evidence-based investigations. There is no exam.
